Camper Catches Fire Behind sports bar in Watertown

Watertown Fire Rescue extinguished a camper fire last night South of Woody’s Sports Bar at a nearby storage building on West Highway 212. No injuries were reported, and a nearby storage building was spared from damage. Fire crews responded shortly before 9:00 PM on Monday, June 9, after receiving a report of visible flames emanating from the roof of a camper. Upon arrival, firefighters found a 1970s fifth-wheel camper in a storage lot engulfed in flames from its roof and rear sections. The camper was approximately 15 feet away from a large storage building, but the fire had not spread to the structure.

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, achieving an initial knockdown within five minutes of their arrival. A search of the camper confirmed that no occupants were inside. Crews then conducted an overhaul of the camper to ensure all hot spots were extinguished and used thermal imaging cameras to verify that the adjacent storage building was unaffected by fire, smoke, or odor. Watertown Fire Rescue remained on the scene for approximately one hour. The Watertown Police Department assisted fire crews at the incident.
