West Pelzer Fire Department says battery charger caught fire while driver was on the road

The West Pelzer Fire Department said a driver had a close call on Sunday. Firefighters said a driver was on the road when a 12-volt battery charger in the carโ€™s center console caught fire. The charger was not plugged in, and firefighters said thankfully no one was hurt. Firefighters said the lithium-ion batteries on the charger are popular and used in several types of devices, including vapes. The National Fire Protection Association said lithium-ion batteries should be kept at room temperature whenever possible. Do not charge these batteries at temperatures below 32 degrees or above 105 degrees. โ€œIf not used correctly, or if damaged, these batteries can catch on fire or explode,โ€ the NFPA said.
