‘We’re super excited’: North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue unveils new truck

VIDEO: A new fire truck has been added in North Myrtle Beach. A dedication ceremony for the new addition was held at North Myrtle Beach Fire Station 2 in Cherry Grove. The new fire engine is replacing a 24-year-old truck that has served its purpose. The new truck, Engine #2, cost an estimated $850,000 and is the first of five new engines coming to North Myrtle Beach fire stations in the next two and a half years. The department designed the fire truck from scratch, including elements and safety features to better serve the growing community that differ from other engines at the stations.

“It’s a major change for our department to set up – this engine is different than our last due to operational changes in the department,” said Michael Huber, division chief for North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue. Some of those elements include a rear and low hose bed, adjustable and longer hose lines, and a system that will allow the lights to synchronize with other engines, making it a first of its kind. “As the city grows, the fire department grows. We’ve made some operational changes on how the rig is used by the firemen, and we’re super excited to have it,” Huber said. The future vehicles will be identical to Engine #2. This new engine begins service on Thursday.
