VIDEO: The Town of Mount Pleasant held a special council meeting on Monday to discuss the implementation of the 2025 Wage Study and the addition of positions to the police and fire departments.
The vote ultimately passed unanimously, approving a portion of the budget, but over $1.6 million was not approved.
โIt is the council that dictates the level of service. And then the chief and the town administrator and all the department heads, they take that level of service that we say we want with the funding we give, and then they do what they can with that,โ Mount Pleasant Councilmember John Iacofano said.
The 2025 Wage Study was broken down into three sections of funds, including Phase I, which would go towards increasing incentives for first responders, which was approved.
โItโs hard work. The guys are out there 24/7, 365 and missing birthdays and holidays, and they go into it knowing itโs dangerous work and they go into it knowing thereโs not a huge paycheck,โ Mount Pleasant resident Matt Thomson said.
Funding for six new firefighter positions and six more police personnel, including four corporals and two community service officers, was approved.
