Officials break ground on new fire station in Goose Creek

VIDEO: Goose Creek officials broke ground on Monday morning on a new fire station in the Carnes Crossroads area. Officials say that departments in the area see a 15% increase in calls every year, and this new fire station would help meet response times, even allowing crews to get to most areas served in under three minutes. โ€œIn emergency services, seconds and minutes can mean lives, and so for us to put a station here thatโ€™s going to be able to reach much of the surrounding area, in minutes less than we could do before, thatโ€™s the significant part,โ€ Goose Creek Mayor Greg Habib says. The new fire station will be an important addition to the area as Goose Creek is rapidly growing, and access to first responders wasnโ€™t keeping up with the growth. The station is expected to take about a year to build and will begin operations by early next year.
