Mount Pleasant Fire Department tests out new schedule for firefighters

VIDEO: Mount Pleasant is trying out some changes to firefighter schedules to provide some relief for people who work hard to keep the town safe. They say this new schedule test is designed to give firefighters a better work life balance, more time off of work and less commutes. Previously, firefighters in Mount Pleasant worked a schedule of 24 hours on the clock and then 48 hours off. Beginning this month for the next several months, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department will be testing a new schedule, called the ‘1-3-2-3 schedule.’ Firefighters will work 24 hours and then have three days off, then they will work 48 hours straight and have an additional three days off. This schedule is intended to give firefighters more mornings at home, more weekends off, and reduce their time spent at the station.
