VIDEOS: The Charleston Fire Department marked 18 years since the devastating fire that killed nine city firefighters at a ceremony Wednesday night. The Charleston Fire Department held its annual remembrance ceremony at the Charleston 9 Memorial Park, the site where the deadly fire happened. Families of the Charleston 9 gathered with fire service members and other folks from the community. It was a time to reflect, remember and pay tribute. For City of Charleston Fire Assistant Chief David Griffin, he says it’s a day that has forever changed how he views his job. “TJ and I, we were on Engine 11, which got here first that night,” he said. “He was 19 years old, and I was 25. So, 18 years later, we’re older and a little bit more mature now, and we realize the importance of remembering that event for the families.” It’s a sentiment shared by City of Charleston Fire Chief Dan Curia. He also reflected on the lessons learned from 18 years ago.
