The Columbia-Richland Fire Department is investigating after responding to a house fire in Forest Acres early Sunday morning. The fire department said crews responded to the 3500 block of Verner Street in Forest Acres around 2:30 a.m. for a reported house fire. Firefighters said they arrived on the scene and found heavy fire coming from the rear of the property. After entering the home, fire crews began searching and located one person in a front bedroom. According to officials, firefighters were able to remove the occupant as well as several pets that were in the home. The Richland County Coronerโs Office was contacted and responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control and extinguished; its cause is currently under investigation.
