‘Catastrophic’ fire damages 40 rooms at Jasper County hotel

VIDEO: There was a fire at the Best Western hotel off exit 33 in Jasper County early Wednesday morning, causing substantial damage to 40 units.

According to Chief Russell Wells with Jasper County Fire Rescue/EMS, the Jasper County 911 Communication Center received reports of a structure fire at the hotel shortly after midnight.

Responding agencies included Jasper County Fire Rescue, Jasper County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Hampton County Fire Rescue, Sheldon Fire Department and the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

Upon arrival, crews found extreme fire conditions and reports of possible occupants inside the hotel.

โ€œThe crews had received preliminary information that there may be somebody in a room. So they focused their initiatives and efforts on making sure that the evacuation was complete and that nobody occupied any of the rooms,โ€ said Wells.

Wells confirmed that all occupants of the hotel were evacuated safely.
