Quattrini transitions to role of full time chief for Harmony Fire in Glocester

A leader with more than three decades of firefighting service in northern Rhode Island will now serve as the full time chief of the Harmony Fire Department. Steven Quattrini retired from his position as senior deputy for the Smithfield Fire Department this month to dedicate more time to the Glocester village department, where he has served as part time chief for the past year.

A Smithfield resident, Quattriniโ€™s first involvement with the Harmony department was in 1987, when he received training under former Chief Charles Aldrich. He was a junior at Smithfield High School at the time.

Quattrini also served as chief of the Western Coventry Fire Department for five years, and had been a member of the Smithfield Fire Department for 32 years, and a deputy chief for the last six.

He took on the role leading Harmony part time last June following the retirement of Chief Richard Waterman. At the time, Quattrini said that he would retire from Smithfield after one more year of service. The chief delivered on the promise, leaving the neighboring department on Thursday, Sept. 11.

One of three fire departments in Glocester, the Harmony Fire District covers an area of approximately 19 square miles, represented by 1,225 houses, 279 parcels of vacant land and 56 summer houses, according to their coverage map. The district averages approximately 600 runs per year.
