Hazmat crews responded to a manufacturing company in Lincoln on Wednesday morning after reports of a chemical leak. Around 10 a.m., one of the valves at ChemArt, a metal plating manufacturer on New England Way, released too much chlorine into the system, according to Limerock Fire Chief Timothy Walsh.
The building was evacuated, and Walsh said the company followed proper procedures while waiting for firefighters. When the firefighters arrived on scene, Walsh said they noticed a strong odor of chlorine and called in a hazardous materials team. He added that the department is familiar with ChemArt and works with the company often.
โIn collaboration with the company, we used certain chemicals to release the amount of chlorine in the building, and we are now putting this business back into play,โ Walsh said. No injuries were reported, and employees were able to reenter the building after about an hour of ventilation.
