First responders called to Narragansett Town Beach to treat heat-related illnesses

About 10 cases of heat-related illness were reported Tuesday at Narragansett Town Beach. Temperatures soared into the upper 90s across the region. A temperature of 100 degrees was recorded at Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport. Narragansett’s fire chief said the first medical call came in at about 11:30 a.m. for a woman who had trouble breathing. While treating her, the chief said other people between 16 and 20 came forward with heat-related exhaustion. A 20-year-old man who became unresponsive was taken to the hospital with suspected heat stroke. Several other people were taken to hospital because of heat-related emergencies, while others were treated at the scene. North Kingstown, South Kingstown and Jamestown assisted with treatment and covering other calls. The chief said the town responded multiple times to Scarborough State Beach for suspect heat-related illnesses.
