Crews battle fire at Warwick business

VIDEO: Firefighters battled a fire that broke out at a commercial building in Warwick Saturday afternoon. Fire Chief Peter McMichael said crews arriving to Tiger Eye Gift Shop on West Shore Road just before 4 p.m. were met with heavy smoke and fire conditions coming from the attic. The building is currently unsafe to be inside due to a ceiling collapse, McMichael said, which also led to firefighters being pulled out.

Nobody suffered any injuries. At least two other businesses were also affected by the fire, according to McMichael. Tiger Eye Gift Shop posted about the fire on social media, saying, โ€œEveryone is okayโ€ and thanked everyone for โ€œthe well wishes.โ€ A separate, small basement fire also took place elsewhere in the city as this fire was being battled by crews, according to McMichael.

Mayor Frank Picozzi posted on social media Saturday evening he was informed by McMichael that crews are starting to be released and one will stay on scene throughout the night. Itโ€™s unclear at this time what caused the fire. An investigation by the State and Warwick Fire Marshal is underway.
