Special rescue teams respond to climber who fell off rock ledge in York County

The Wrightsville Fire Department responded to a rock climber who fell off of a rock ledge on Sunday, April 27, according to their Facebook. At 11:44 a.m., Wrightsville Fire alongside the Hellam Fire Department responded to a medical incident in the Susquehanna Riverlands State Park. Upon arrival, responders discovered that a rock climber had fallen 15 feet onto a rock ledge, and officials upgraded the assignment to a special rescue. The York County ATR and York Area United Fire and Rescue then responded to the scene.

Crews utilized UTVs from Columbia Borough Fire Department and Maytown-East Donegal Township Fire Department to transport equipment and personnel to the area of the climber. After making contact with the climber, crews worked with other rock climbers to lower the patient off of the rock ledge. Once the patient was off of the rock ledge, he was transferred to a low angle lowering system and was lowered down to EMS personnel awaiting on the trail. He was flown to a local trauma center and is in stable condition.
