VIDEO: For nearly a decade, she’s been more than just a K-9. Gracie has been a trusted friend and a powerful tool in investigating fires across Berks County.
“We started working together, well, we got back from training in December of 2017. We hit the ground running and we’ve been working together ever since. She’s had a very good impact for us,” said Lt. Trent Zulick of Reading Fire Department.
Gracie was trained by the ATF to detect accelerants, helping turn suspicion into solid evidence.
“She’s using her nose and she’s sniffing around the house. And she’s searching for anything that can be used to accelerate a fire, as we say,” said Lt. Zulick.
She’s also brought calm to the chaos. ”Even though she’s not a certified therapy dog or anything like that, she still brings that. And guys do search her out. You know, if you’re, if they’re having a bad day,“ said Lt. Zulick.
After years of service and banana treats at the office. “She’ll stay with me. She’ll retire with me. She’ll retire as my pet,” said Lt. Zulick.
