Person extracted following trench rescue in York County

PHOTOS: According to York County Emergency Dispatch, crews responded to the 3000 block of Bahn Avenue in New Salem just before 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the York New Salem Fire Chief Brock Miller Brown, a man was excavating a hole to do repairs when he lost his balance and fell in. Wrightsville Steam Fire Engine & Hose Company #1 said Wednesday evening that the department responded to the scene with Rescue 41-1 and two additional technicians from Company 41. Upon arrival, crews assessed the situation and installed trench panels to shore up the walls of the trench, which they say was 8 feet deep. After securing the soil, the man was removed from the trench using a rope system. Wrightsville Fire Department said that the extraction was completed within 90 minutes of arrival. The man was transported to a local trauma to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the department.
