VIDEO: Trees consumed in flames, smoke towering hundreds of feet in the air and ash raining down from the sky may sound like a scene out of a horror movie, but for wildland firefighters, it’s a work trip. A crew of Pennsylvania wildland firefighters gathered in Swatara Township Saturday night as they prepared for a two-week crucible fighting back flames on the West Coast as part of an interstate effort to combat forest fires. โWildland firefighting is definitely a partnership. [Between] the federal government, state governments [and] volunteer fire departments, we all work together to go where we’re needed,โ Seth Cassell, the director of the DCNR Bureau of Forestry, said. With summer being the fire season for western states, Pennsylvania has already sent around 70 people to help protect communities and resources in the areas that are being effected.
