Johnstown Fire Department prepares to unveil park to honor fallen firefighters

The Johnstown Fire Department is preparing to unveil a new memorial park dedicated to honoring firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

Located at the corner of Franklin and Vine Streets near the Firefighters Memorial Bridge, the Johnstown Firefighters Memorial Park features a bell monument inscribed with the names of seven fallen firefighters. The park includes plaques that tell the stories of these individuals who risked their lives to save others.

“Probably been a two to three year project. Construction just finished up here within the last two or three months,” Captain Raymond Penatzer, who has been involved in the project said.

Captain Raymond Penatzer expressed his hope that the park will inspire community members to reflect on the sacrifices made by the firefighters.

“I think as the citizens and the people and the visitors walk through the area, they’ll be able to take some time and go through the park and have those seven firefighters always remembered,” Penatzer said.
