Firefighters in Scranton undergo screenings to help combat cancer risk

VIDEO: “People are a little nervous. They don’t know what to expect, but we try to make them feel comfortable. We try to explain the process so that way, you know, if they’re coming in with a little bit of anxiety, we’re able to kind of tone that down,” said Angela Montoya, Lucid Diagnostics. A little bit of anxiousness and roughly five minutes is all it takes to potentially save the lives of dozens of firefighters in Scranton. Inside Weston Field Community Center, the Pennsylvania Firefighter Check Your Food Tube (CYFT) event offered screenings for the first responders, who officials say are at a 62 percent higher risk for esophageal cancer.ย “If they hit three of the factors, they’re going to get screened for the esophageal cancer. It’s going to be able to detect an early cancer detection,” said Pres. Allen Lucas, IAFF Local 60 Union. Allen Lucas is the president of the International Association of Firefighters Local 60 Union.
