Firefighters battle flames, propane tanks during blaze in Girard Township

PHOTOS: Emergency officials in Clearfield County say area firefighters battled heavy flames overnight at a property in Girard Township.

According to the Morris Township Volunteer Fire Company, crews were initially dispatched, around 9:30 p.m., for reports of a shed fire.

After determining that the flames were reportedly contained to a fire pit, officials say crews were released from the scene.

While returning from the initial call, officials say firefighters were then dispatched to a reported structure fire, in the area of Shawville-Frenchville Highway and Deer Creek Road.

There, authorities say firefighters encountered heavy flames and limited access due to an icy driveway and reports of propane tanks near the structure.

Officials say firefighters were forced to wait for the three tanks to ‘self-release’ any pressure in order to ensure the safety of responding crews.
