PHOTOS: Firefighters battled a power plant fire in East Manchester Township Thursday afternoon. Crews responded around 3:34 p.m. to a fire at Talen Energy on Brunner Island, according to Union Fire Company No. 1. The fire company said the natural gas- and coal-fired plant produces steam-generated electricity. “Coal dust around the boiler of Unit 3 ignited on the upper levels of the plant creating a challenging firefight for plant personnel and firefighters,” Union Fire Company No. 1 said in a Facebook post.
Firefighters were on scene of the one-alarm fire for about two hours. Mount Wolf Fire and York County Regional Police were the primary responding agencies, dispatchers said, and no injuries were reported.
