PHOTOS/VIDEO: Thick smoke and flames poured from the upper floors of a 100-year-old apartment building in Boswell early Tuesday morning, as firefighters from across Somerset County worked for hours to bring the fire under control. The Boswell Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene just before 5:30 a.m. for reports of a building fire in the borough. Crews arrived to find flames showing from the second and third floors of a former commercial structure that had been converted into apartments.
Efforts to knock down the fire were complicated by multiple layers of old renovations throughout the building, slowing progress as firefighters worked through dense wall and ceiling materials. More than 40 firefighters from neighboring departmentsโincluding Stoystown, Jennerstown, Sipesville, Jerome, Richland, Listie, and Northern Regionalโjoined the response, along with Somerset Area Ambulance for EMS support.
