VIDEO: The American flag is at half mast outside the Dushore Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 on Julia Street in the borough. Over the weekend, the fire company lost one of its own. Although he only joined in August, his fellow firefighters say he already made a huge impact on them.
“He came to us after retirement looking for a way to give back to the community, that says a lot about who he was, always smiling, always curious, and always willing to help, his enthusiasm was contagious,” said Fire Chief John Yonkin, Dushore Volunteer Fire Company No. 1.
The man Dushore Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Fire Chief John Yonkin is describing is 54-year-old Michael Hanley from Bucks County.
Yonkin says Hanley recently retired and bought property in Sullivan County; he reached out to the fire company to dedicate his free time. After completing several trainings, he was scheduled to go through pump and driver operator courses.
“He demonstrated the true spirit of volunteering, learning, helping, and giving his all. We were looking forward to see him grow and take on greater responsibility,” said Chief Yonkin.
