Cumberland County house fire injures 1, displaces 7

VIDEO/PHOTOS: One person was sent to the hospital and seven others were displaced after a house fire in Cumberland County on Tuesday. A home in the 600 block of South Hanover Street in Carlisle Borough caught fire around 7:45 a.m. A column of smoke could be seen billowing into the sky. Arriving crews found heavy fire engulfing one side of the home.

The Union Fire Company said the fire was upgraded to a second alarm after they received reports that people were trapped in the house. Crews said they located and rescued one person who was in the basement. That individual was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, the fire company said. No one else was found inside the home after crews conducted a search, according to the fire company.

It took firefighters around three hours to clear the scene. The house was severely damaged. The Red Cross says they are assisting seven people after the house fire. South Hanover Street was closed while crews fought the blaze. The road has since reopened. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Photos from the scene show the burned house, with most of the fire damage towards the back of the home.
