Cumberland County fire company dedicates tanker to late member

VIDEO: A local volunteer fire company dedicated its newest piece of apparatus to a late member.

The North Middleton Township Volunteer Fire Co. dedicated their new Tanker 39 — a 2025 Pierce/Kenworth delivered over the summer — to Lonnie McKillop, Sr. He passed away in 2018.

At Saturday’s truck housing, attendees said the dedication is a way to carry on his legacy.

“The family is absolutely thrilled,” Taylor Griffiths, emergency management coordinator for North Middleton Township, told abc27 News. “We got to bring in his son, who is still very active in the fire service here in Cumberland County, along with his little grandson. I know for the family, it meant a lot to bring the community together here and see this new piece of apparatus come to service and welcome the tanker to many years of service.”

Members of the North Middleton Township community took part in a ceremonial truck housing, undertaking the tradition of pushing the truck into its bay.
