Cattle trailer fire on I-81 South kills two cows, delays traffic in Lackawanna County

VIDEO: An early morning cattle trailer fire on Interstate 81 South in Lackawanna County was causing traffic delays after killing at least two cows on Wednesday.

The cattle carrier fire began around 6 a.m. The Moosic Fire Department says 35 cattle were in the trailer, and two died after the rear-axle brakes caught fire under the Davis Street bridge on I-81 South.

Crews put out the fire before it could spread to the rest of the trailer. Interstate 81 South was down to one lane while the incident was being cleared.

The Davis Street Bridge was closed to traffic for a time.
