The Cambria County Swift Water Rescue Team has been awarded funds that will help them purchase new equipment.
According to our media partners at The Tribune Democrat, the money was awarded by the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies to buy two new rapid deployment crafts. The team has been using an inflatable boat, which crew members say isn’t designed for ice or shallow water.
“These boats are specifically designed for ice rescue applications or water that is too shallow and too swift,” team leader and instructor Rickey Price Jr. said.
They added that the current craft has experienced wear and tear, and the new ones allow for fewer members to deploy them.
The East Taylor Township Volunteer Fire Department, a rescue team member, wrote the grant for the new equipment and the Cambria County commissioners supplied a letter of support, which Price said he was thankful for.
