Annual Fireman’s Picnic kicks off, draws crowds in Lackawanna County

VIDEO: Itโ€™s one of the biggest events of the year in one local community and the biggest fundraiser for the Covington Fire Company. The Firemanโ€™s Picnic is now underway, and Tuesday kicked off with a crowd favorite. The carnival grounds opened at 6 with food stands, carnival rides, and a beer tent, drawing in families from around the area. Organizers say the week-long event raises nearly $50,000 in profit, money the fire company relies on to fund operations year-round. Tuesday night featured a car show with dozens of classic and custom vehicles. Volunteers say theyโ€™ll start planning next yearโ€™s picnic as soon as this one ends, because the turnout keeps growing. โ€œItโ€™s a lot to get this set up, but the nights of the picnic, itโ€™s worth it when you see the kids having a good time and the adults having a good time. Hopefully, the weather holds out and we get a good crowd,โ€ Fire Chief Brad Jones told 28/22 News.
