Six families — a total of 14 adults and 10 children — were displaced by a fire at a Chambersburg apartment building Sunday night, authorities said.
The fire was reported at a building on the 400 block of Lincoln Way West, according to the Greater Chambersburg Area Paid Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 1813.
Arriving firefighters found smoke and flames showing from the three-story building, the union said on its Facebook page. While some firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze with a 400-foot line at the rear of the building, others went inside to clear the apartments.
Everyone was able to exit the building safely, with no injuries reported.
The Red Cross responded to the scene to arrange placement for the 24 people dispatched by the fire.
The Franklin Fire Company, New Franklin Fire Co., Letterkenny Fire IAFF Local F-170, Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Company, West End Fire & Rescue, Fayetteville EMS, and WellSpan EMS all responded to the scene.
