VIDEO: Two people died after being rescued from a burning home in Robeson Township early Wednesday morning, according to Chief Scott Gullo, Friendship Fire Company No. 1 of Geigertown. The fire was reported just after 1 a.m. in the 3600 block of Morgantown Road (Route 10) in Robeson Township, between Green Hills and New Morgan. Gullo said a police officer who happened to be in the area is the one who called in the fire. “One of the Robeson police officers was actually sitting about a quarter mile away,” Gullo said. “He investigated a smoke condition and found it. At that point, the fire was too intense for him to make any entry. He did see cars in the driveway, and a neighbor said that they were the most likely home.”
Firefighters arrived on the scene, and an official quickly struck a second alarm for additional manpower and water. Gullo estimated that volunteers from a dozen fire companies responded to the scene. The chief said firefighters found the two victims inside the doorway, and EMS crews immediately provided medical care before rushing them to the trauma center at Reading Hospital, where they were both pronounced dead, according to the coroner.
