USFS takes over firefighting efforts for Wyeth Fire in Hood River County

PHOTOS: The US Forest Service (USFS) has taken command of firefighting efforts for the Wyeth Fire burning in Hood River County. At last update, the fire had burned approximately 25 acres of land east of Cascade Locks. The fire was first reported on Monday around 5:30 p.m. The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office issued a Level 2 (Get Set) evacuation notice for the Wyeth Campground and the east end of Herman Creek, which included one home.

In an update at 11:30 p.m., Cascade Locks Fire and EMS reported that all local fire department resources, except for Cascade Locks E95, were cleared from fire response and that the USFS had taken over suppression efforts. In that 11:30 p.m. update, officials said that all evacuation levels would remain in effect through the night and that the situation would be reevaluated in the morning. An update on the evacuation has not yet been posted. The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) temporarily cut power to Cascade Locks (Bonneville to Hood River) due to the transmission lines being involved in the fire. Power has since been restored.
