Portland Fire and Rescue said an unattended candle caused an apartment fire early Friday morning in the Bridlemile neighborhood. Crews responded to the fire on Beaverton Hillsdale Highway around 12:15 a.m., where they found that the fire did not extend beyond one apartment unit on the fourth floor. โCrews found a room and contents fire in an extremely cluttered fourth floor apartment unit that was partially suppressed by the buildingโs sprinkler system,โ officials said.
โCrews stretched a hose line to this unit and quickly extinguished the remainder of the fire.โ No injuries were reported, but one person was evaluated for a possible panic attack,โ according to PF&R. Several residents lost their homes on third floor apartments due to water damage. An investigator found that one smoke alarm in the apartment unit was missing and another was not operational. Fire crews warn that candles should never be left unattended.
