Representative Court Boice is stepping up to support firefighters battling the Moon Complex, Oregon’s most active blaze. He has spent the last two weeks operating jet boats and helping take fire crews from the Paradise Lodge to the fire line. “We just stayed focused on getting them from point A to point B, but their attitudes were great. We love our firefighters. It’s extremely hard work,” said Boice. Boice grew up on the Rogue River and at the Paradise Lodge, so his knowledge of the terrain and the river helps get crews to the complex as safely and quickly as possible.
“This is the most rugged terrain in all of North America. And so getting them in and out, our boats are designed to handle that. After 15, 16, 17 days of boating, not one minor incident or accident or injury. So we’re proud of that as well. We’ve learned a lot from this fire,” said Boice.
He says he is committed to advocating for fire aid both on the ground and at the capitol and emphasizes the importance of wildfire awareness and prevention. “That’s my number one issue. It has been for about 10 years. Fire wildfire, awareness, prevention, response, suppression, and recovery. We just have to really, continually be on our toes and find the funding for both the state and federal level,” said Boice. Boice also highlighted the community’s pride in their firefighters and the ongoing efforts to protect Agness.
