Pacificorp reaches $150M settlement for some 2020 fires in Oregon, California

VIDEO: Pacific Power’s parent company has reached a $150 million settlement with more than 1,400 Oregon plaintiffs regarding several wildfires from Labor Day weekend in 2020. PacifiCorp says that since 2020, it has settled nearly 4,200 wildfire claims for $1.6 billion, representing approximately 70% of individual claims in Oregon and California. It said in a statement it is willing to settle all reasonable claims related to the Echo Mountain, 242, and South Obenchain fires.

The South Obenchain Fire, which burned between Eagle Point and Butte Falls, scorched around 33,000 acres and destroyed 90 structures. The South Obenchain Fire started a few hours after the Almeda Fire began in southern Jackson County on September 8, 2020. The cause of that fire has never been announced by law enforcement, though investigators have said it was human-caused.
