Lightning strikes spark four fires in Lane County, homes saved

PHOTOS: Lightning strikes ignited four fires in the Mohawk Valley on Wednesday, including one that threatened a residence, said Mohawk Valley Rural Fire District officials. Fire authorities said that a lightning strike on Aug. 27 set a tree and nearby building ablaze, with the flames quickly spreading. Thanks to crews already in the area, the fire was swiftly managed, saving the home. Strong partnerships with agencies like McKenzie Fire and the Oregon Department of Forestry were crucial in controlling these fires. The increased staffing from the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Summer Staffing Grant also played a key role in community protection. A type 6 brush engine from Mohawk Valley remains deployed to the Flat Fire near Sisters. These collaborative efforts underscore the importance of local and regional partnerships in fire management.
