Lane County teams rescue hiker from Three Sisters Wilderness

A distress call from a GPS beacon led to the rescue of an injured hiker in the Three Sisters Wilderness, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office. LCSO officials said that the alert was received on Oct. 31 at around 6:30 p.m. Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, along with Upper McKenzie Rural Fire Protection District, coordinated efforts to locate the hiker’s vehicle at the Separation Lake trailhead.

Around midnight, SAR personnel found the hiker off-trail and provided emergency medical care, including treatment for possible hypothermia. Residents and visitors are urged to take precautions when exploring local outdoor areas. Tips include informing someone of your plans, checking weather conditions, preparing for overnight stays, carrying offline maps, and wearing life jackets on water. Lane County Sheriff’s SAR teams assist weekly in various environments.
