PHOTOS: The Harney County Sheriff’s Office continues to respond to severe flooding in the Burns area, caused by rapid snowmelt. The flooding has posed significant challenges for the local community, prompting emergency services to work tirelessly to ensure residents’ safety and well-being. Harney County Sheriff Dan Jenkins emphasized the community’s safety as the primary concern. “Our primary concern is the safety of our community. Our city, county, and state agencies are working around the clock to provide the necessary resources and support to those affected by the flooding,” said Jenkins.
He acknowledged the profound impact the flooding has had on people’s lives and expressed gratitude for the community’s patience and support. “We recognize the flooding has impacted people’s lives in significant ways. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we continue to work to mitigate issues, and we are grateful for your support of one another and your first responders,” Jenkins said. Officials tell KATU News that the snowmelt caused a 200% increase in water coming down the Silives River. River levels will continue to go down until warmer temperatures arrive next week.
