Firefighters tackle truck blaze and rescue man from canal in Lebanon

PHOTOS: Firefighters with the Lebanon Fire District (LFD) responded to a pickup truck fire on Sunday around 1 p.m. on the 32000 block of Berlin Road, where flames threatened a nearby travel trailer and ignited a grass fire. LFD says fire crews quickly deployed hose lines down a steep driveway, extinguishing the flames and preventing significant damage to the trailer. Two propane tanks were damaged, venting flames, but firefighters used a protective fog hose pattern to shield themselves and safely turn off the valves, said LFD in a press release. The family managed to escape with most of their pets before firefighters arrived, but two cats were initially unaccounted for.

Firefighters entered the trailer and found the cats hiding but safe and unharmed, the fire district confirmed. The trailer sustained minimal interior damage. Fire officials believe the blaze started near a portable generator in the truck bed, however, the cause remains under investigation. Later that same day, around 4 p.m., LFD says firefighters assisted Lebanon Police with a person in distress in the canal near Oak Street and South Main Street. The individual, experiencing medical and cognitive challenges, had jumped into the water and was unable to get out. Rescuers entered the water and brought the man safely to shore. He was treated and transported to Lebanon Community Hospital.
