Eugene Springfield Fire responded to several fire incidents on Monday. Just before 7:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a brush fire burning near a home in the 1500 block of Vera Dr in Springfield. Firefighters arrived to find arborvitae burning in the back yard of a home and were able to contain the fire before it spread to near boy homes. Just after 12 p.m., firefighters were called to the 3200 block of Gateway St in Springfield. Callers reported smoke in the laundry room in the Gateway Village Apartments.
Firefighters found that a belt had burned up on a commercial dryer, but did not extend to the building. Just after 3:15 p.m., firefighters were called to the 4300 block of Main St in Springfield for a fast moving grass fire. The fire was threating nearby structures and was controlled by responding fire crews. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation. Just a before 4:45 p.m., firefighters were called to a mobile home fire in the 500 block on N Danebo in West Eugene. Firefighters arrived to find a mobile home heavily involved in fire. Reports suggest fireworks may have caused the fire, but the cause is under investigation.
Just before 6 p.m., firefighters were called to the 1800 block of J St in Springfield to a shed on fire. Responding fire crews contained the fire to the shed. The cause is believed to be a mishap while refueling a lawnmower. There were no injuries reported. Just after 6 p.m., firefighters were called to a possible fire at Safeway on Pioneer Parkway in Springfield. Arriving crews found light smoke from the roof at the back of the building. Fire had extended from a dumpster fire in to the wall and a void space in the ceiling above a business.
