Firefighters put out 2-alarm house fire in southeast Salem

PHOTOS: Fire crews battled a two-alarm house fire early Thursday morning in a southeast Salem neighborhood. No one was hurt in the fire. People called 911 reporting flames coming from a large 3-story home with rugged terrain in the backyard. Fire officials called out a second alarm, and 15 fire vehicles and several specialty units responded to the scene. โ€œDespite initial obstacles, including a limited water supply and steep slopes, firefighters successfully deployed an aerial master stream and handlines to bring the fire under control,โ€ Salem Fire said. Fire investigators are still working to find out what caused the fire. Initial estimates put the property loss at $300,000 due to extensive fire and water damage. The American Red Cross is helping one adult find temporary shelter.
