Firefighters contain multi-structure fire in Sutherlin; multiple pets lost, one cat rescued

The Sutherlin Fire Department was dispatched to a reported shed fire that quickly spread to other structures in the Soft Winds Mobile Home Park at 401 N. Comstock Road.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 9. While Sutherlin FD were en route, crews were advised of multiple callers reporting a working structure fire.

Within five minutes of being dispatched, the first fire engine arrived to find two mobile homes, multiple sheds, and two vehicles on fire. Firefighters immediately went into a defensive mode, keeping the fire from spreading any further. Firefighters extinguished multiple spot fires in the area throughout the incident.

The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes and firefighters continued to overhaul the scene for multiple hours. No Firefighters were injured; however, one civilian was evaluated on scene for injuries.

Multiple pets perished in the fire, with one cat being rescued by firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
