VIDEO/PHOTOS: Fire investigators are looking for what – or who – caused a trio of fires along a popular bike path in Eugene. Eugene Springfield Fire are calling the three brush fires on the East Bank Trail suspicious – and frequent trail users are simply shocked. The East Bank Trail and others on Goodpasture Island are used for everything from biking to taking a quick walk during a lunch break.
Between midnight and 3 a.m., ESF responded to three separate brush fires Monday morning: the first fire was reported on Goodpasture Island Road, the second was west of Marist High School, and a third fire north of the school on the bike path. With hotter temperatures wildfires are a concern for the community, but instances like this near the city can be shocking. ESF’s Valley River Station was able to respond to the first fire. After a thorough mop-up, the fires are now under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
