Explosion sparks RV fire in White City

A fifth-wheel RV caught fire Thursday afternoon off Sams Valley Highway in White City, leading to a loud explosion and thick smoke visible for miles. Concerned neighbors quickly called 9-1-1.

โ€œI did. I did. [heard the explosion] It was just a popping noise, like things going off over thereโ€ฆ people yellingโ€ฆ and there was a guy on a tractor just trying to do everything he could to keep the fire contained,โ€ said White City resident Scott Seymour. Fire District 3 told NewsWatch 12 the flames started in the RV and spread to a nearby carport. Crews were able to contain the fire, and no one was hurt.

โ€œBig old plot of smoke in the back of my propertyโ€ฆ found out it was a structure. Just sat there and watched it, took some picturesโ€ฆ it got pretty intense,โ€ Seymour added. Fire District 3 said the explosion was likely caused by a BLEVE, or Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion, involving a propane tank. The exact cause remains under investigation.
