Crews respond to deadly car crash involving pedestrian in Northeast Portland

VIDEO/PHOTOS: One person was killed and three people were injured after a chaotic crash spanning multiple blocks in Northeast Portland on Thursday. Crews were called out to the scene near the Safeway store in the 5900 block of NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. around 11:45 a.m.

According to the preliminary investigation, police say the driver of a silver Ford Escape was speeding north on NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when they ran up onto the sidewalk on the east side of the street and struck two pedestrians near NE Jarrett Street. Police say the Escape also narrowly missed a child.

Multiple witnesses told KATU that a car drove up onto a sidewalk and struck two people who had just gotten off a bus. One pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The second pedestrian who was struck was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Both pedestrians have only been identified as adult men.
