Albany family recovering after child rescues sibling from raging house fire

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A family is recovering after one of their children rushed back into house fire that destroyed their home to rescue her sibling on Monday. According to the Albany Fire Department, at about 3:42 p.m. on March 31, firefighters responded to a reported mobile home fire at a park on Airport Road. Firefighters said the initial 911 call reported a child was trapped in the burning mobile home, but when police and firefighters arrived, they found all occupants had gotten out of the home safely.

Bystanders at the scene told firefighters that a sibling of the trapped child had saved the younger child from the burning home before they arrived. Firefighters evacuated neighboring homes and had the fire put out by 4:21 p.m. Officials said no firefighters were injured in the effort to put out the blaze. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation. 11-year-old Rachael Volland was playing outside before the fire started. Her mother, Brittany Duty, had just left for work and her father would be returning home soon.
