Albany apartment fire displaces four, cause under investigation

PHOTOS: A structure fire erupted in Albany on Sunday evening at 830 Broadway Street SW, prompting a swift response from local fire crews, according to the Albany Fire Department. AFD officials said they responded at 8:22 p.m. on Aug. 31 to the incident and that the fire originated in a single apartment of a one-story, four-unit building. Flames were visible from the front and rear doors as well as the windows. Firefighters quickly controlled the blaze, confining it to the original apartment. Despite this, all four units were temporarily uninhabitable, displacing four residents. One resident was evaluated for smoke inhalation but did not need hospitalization. The Albany FireFighter Community Assistance Fund arranged temporary housing for the affected individuals. The fire’s cause is still under investigation. Fire crews remained on site overnight to prevent potential flare-ups and support ongoing efforts.
