4th-floor fire extinguished in ‘amazing stop’ in NW Portland

PHOTOS: A large fire on the 4th-floor balcony of a 4-story wood frame house was brought under control in what Portland Fire & Rescue officials said was “an amazing stop” early Sunday evening. The fire at the house near NW 21st and Johnson, which was reported shortly after 6 p.m., brought dozens of fire personnel to the scene. When crews first arrived, the fire was “showing from the third floor deck” and was “extending into the roof structure,” PFR posted on X. But within 20 minutes, the fire was put out and crews began gathering their hose and gear. Officials said a family of 4 doesn’t have a place to stay now, but no one was injured. The cause of the fire is not yet determined, nor is it clear how much damage was done to the single-family home. “This was an amazing stop by our crews on a very large house,” Lt. Lauren Picard with PF&R told KOIN 6 News.
