VIDEO: One person was hurt during a fire at a senior care facility near Tigard early Monday morning. At about 6:50 a.m., Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue reported crews were responding to a fire at Avamere at Park Place, located at 8445 SW Hemlock Street. First crews on scene found heavy, black smoke and flames coming from the side of facility.
TVF&R says the fire began on the outside of the building and spread to the inside, impacting several units at the care facility. The fire was reported to be under control just after 7:30 a.m. All residents were evacuated. TVF&R says one person is being treated for minor injuries. Fire investigators determined that the fire started due to the improper disposal of smoking materials.
