Tulsa firefighter killed, 3 hospitalized in fiery Owasso crash at busy intersection

The Tulsa Fire Department is mourning after a firefighter was killed in a five-car crash on Tuesday in Owasso. Two other people are in critical condition.

People nearby heard the crash and saw the ball of fire and did whatever they could to help. Nearby residents say they heard a loud noise and saw a ball of flames after a crash occurred near 116th and Garnett St. in Owasso. Police say a speeding truck slammed into multiple vehicles stopped at a red light. The crash spilled fuel, triggering a massive fire. Levi Molini, who owns a business near the scene, recalls the terrifying sound. Molini and others called 911 and tried to help.

“It was kind of a loud bang… I immediately saw it was not a rock truck,” Molini said, “There was a bunch of people trying to get others out of the cars… I was worried one might just blow up.” Pastor Scott French of Discovery Church says his team was deeply moved. Staff members prayed and supported victims and witnesses at the scene. He says they wanted to be a presence for them. “It was emotionally impacting… even hours later, seeing the vehicles,” French said. First responders escorted the firefighter’s body to the medical examiner today, saluting his service.

The Tulsa Fire Department released a statement that said:

“This firefighter faithfully served the Tulsa community with courage, dedication, and compassion. He was not only a trusted colleague and respected leader, but also a beloved member of our fire family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this difficult time. Out of respect for the family, additional details will not be released at this time. Funeral and memorial arrangements will be shared once they are finalized in coordination with his loved ones.”
