The Tulsa Fire Department announced the death of Stephen Mixon, an assistant fire marshal who suffered a medical emergency while on duty. Mixon joined the Tulsa Fire Department in March 1998 and served the city for nearly 28 years, according to the department.
Most recently, Mixon worked in the departmentโs Code Enforcement Office as an assistant fire marshal. In that role, he focused on ensuring buildings across Tulsa were safe for residents, workers, and visitors.
Department leaders said Mixon was known for his dedication to public safety, his commitment to education and prevention, and his respectful approach when working with business owners and the public.
His work included fire safety education for children, smoke alarm installation events, car seat safety checks, and other prevention efforts aimed at reducing fire-related risks in the community.
The department described Mixon as a trusted colleague and a valued member of the fire department family whose service and compassion left a lasting impact on Tulsa. Fire officials asked the public to keep Mixonโs family, friends, and fellow firefighters in their thoughts and to respect their privacy as they grieve.
